Chirstine and Fabian: A Romantic Irish inspired wedding at the Cookery

Christine and Fabian met on New Year’s Eve 2012 in Dublin, just a few days before she was moving back home to the US. Their connection was instant and Fabian came to visit Christine in the US twice before she made the decision to move back to Ireland for her master’s degree. Once there, the couple’s romance blossomed within the Irish pubs and countryside. So, it was only appropriate that when they planned the wedding a touch of Irish details were included!

They chose a spring wedding and Fabian’s family flew in from France for the occasion. The  day started off sunny but, became more overcast and it started to rain, which really made it feel like an Irish day!

For the wedding Christine wanted to combine the industrial vibe of the Cookery with soft and romantic details. For the ceremony there were beautiful chandeliers and a market light wall, which created a warm and intimate glow. And everywhere you looked, there was lush greenery and candles! The head table had a stunning lace overlay that was soft and romantic. There were a lot of special and fun details as well. In honor of the Japanse wedding tradition, Christine folded 1,000 origami paper cranes which were hung on the wall. Instead of traditional table numbers, each table was the name of a pub they had visited in Ireland, with a corresponding picture of Christine and Fabian standing in front of the pub!  And for the cake cutting, they used a vintage sword that Chrstine’s grandfather collected on his travels around the world.

I had so much fun working with Christine and her mom, Michelle, on the wedding. It’s truly one to remember and a reminder of why I love my job.

Lauren and Matt: A Classic Durham Wedding at Watt’s St. Baptist and The Rickhouse

Lauren and Matt’s love story is a true Durham tale. One day as Lauren and her family were strolling downtown, Matt (on the other side of a fence at the Surf Club) yelled over and invited Lauren and her family to play bocce. The chemistry was instant and Lauren and Matt ended up spending hours together that evening talking and getting to know each other.  The next few months they fell in love with Durham as the backdrop to their romance. So, it was only appropriate that they stay local for their wedding celebration.

Lauren and Matt were married on the perfect fall day! The ceremony took place at Watt’s Street Baptist which held extra special meaning since Lauren’s family has worshiped there for three generations. After the wedding guests headed to the nearby Rickhouse where they enjoyed delicious food from Donovan’s Dish. One of the incredibly special details were the flowers. Not only were they stunningly beautiful but, the were made by Lauren’s own family which owns, Sander’s Florist.

I hope you read this blog and get inspired for your own wedding day!

Ruthellen and Daniel: A Romantic Summer Wedding at the Cloth Mill

These days it’s rare to hear of childhood sweethearts that stand the test of time. But, for Ruthellen and Daniel, their middle school relationship was everlasting!

The couple married on a warm summer day. But, the heat didn’t stop them from having a gorgeous first look over the lake at Ruthellen’s family home or a lovely outdoor ceremony at The Cloth Mill. After the ceremony guests cooled off inside with specialty drinks, the  Baby Ruth and the Danny Boy, and some fabulous food from Mitchell’s Catering. Ruthellen chose a sophisticated and  romantic color palette of soft greens and pinks for her decor. But, she also added in a few fun touches! In lieu of a traditional guest book attendees snapped shots with vintage style polaroid cameras to add to the wedding memories. And at each place setting guests were given boxes of “childhood sweet tarts, ” as wedding favors. After dinner, guests partied on the dance floor to the music of Joe Bunn until it was time for the sparkler send off!

Toni & Matt- Classically Elegant Wedding at The Cookery

I’m excited to share Toni and Matt’s lovely October wedding at The Cookery! The day started off with a sweet and intimate morning ceremony followed by a delicious brunch from Sage and Swift. Guests enjoyed Bloody Mary’s and a menu of blueberry pecan french toast, shrimp and grits, buttermilk biscuits, and sausages. Yum! For music Toni and Matt wanted a relaxed vibe so they chose Band Caribe to offer a little Caribbean flair for their guests to enjoy. One of my favorite details was the traditional send off in their car which was decorated by all the children in attendance.

We hope you enjoy these photo from McCardell Photography and get inspired for your own big day!

Reena & Shawn- Fun Summer Rehearsal Dinner at the Rickhouse

Reena and Shawn’s Labor day weekend started off with a Saturday party at the Rickhouse. In typical Indian tradition this party is the Sangeet and is filled with Indian food and choreographed dances. But, Reena and Shawn wanted the evening to be more of a welcome party that was relaxed, festive, and introduced their guests to the Durham. The Rickhouse was the perfect venue. It has an incredible view of the old Durham Bulls Stadium (as seen in the famous movie Bull Durham) and fresh seasonal flowers from Bluebird Meadows filled the room. For dinner guests enjoyed a menu of BBQ, corn fritter, mac n cheese, and fried okra provided by Durham Catering. And nothing cooled guests down on the warm summer evening better than an ice cream by bar the Freezing Pointe.

Lenox & Bradford- Romantic Winter Wedding at Duke Chapel and The Angus Barn

There is something magical about a holiday wedding! Lenox and Bradford were married this past December just before Christmas. The wedding held a lot of elegant details, from the bridal party’s sophisticated blush dresses to the men’s black tuxes. But, the wedding didn’t lack fun! From the amazing Sleeping Booty Band  to the Santa hats and antler ears for all the guests, this wedding was all about the party!

The Angus Barn provided an incredible menu which included fried oysters, mini burger sliders, beef tenderloin, and ahi tuna with seaweed salad. And A Watered Garden Florist created a winter wonderland with 5 huge Christmas trees and tables filled with magnolia garlands, barley twist candle sticks, giant pine cones, and antlers.

Kelly & Andrew- Duke Chapel and Cookery Wedding

I’m so excited to share the lovely summer wedding of Kelly and Andrew!  They chose Durham because it was where they first met. In fact, they met their very first day of undergrad when they moved into the same dorm at Duke. After 8 years of dating and a big move to South Korea quickly approaching, they snagged an open spot at the chapel and booked the Cookery for the reception.

Both Kelly and Andrew wanted to show off a little Southern hospitality to their guests. Their specialty drinks were a Southern Gentleman and a Blueberry Fizz. For food Donovan’s Dish help create a custom menu which included Southern appetizers of  fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese, mini chicken and waffles, and Bourbon meatballs.

Since Kelly LOVES dessert she chose assorted cakes made by the wonderful Details Cake Design. Flavors included coconut cake, German chocolate, Hummingbird cake, and even a little key lime pie!

Megan & Scott- Summer Wedding at Duke Chapel and Bay 7

I am so excited to present this beautiful summer wedding in Durham! Megan and Scott both attended Duke undergraduate but, didn’t meet until they both enrolled in a masters program at the university. Since Duke represented such a large part of their lives, Durham was the perfect place to exchange vows and celebrate with their friends!

I had such a great time planning with Megan and her mom, Kathleen. They made a great team and I admire their close bond. Of course, the groom did get some input. Especially in choosing the cake from the always fabulous Art of Cake! My favorite part about weddings are the personal touches. In this case, it was Megan’s custom gown created with restored Alecon lace from her mother’s own wedding dress.

After a beautiful Catholic  ceremony at Duke Chapel the guests headed to the  reception at the historic  Bay 7 at  American Tobacco where they enjoyed amazing food from The Angus Barn, including some Maryland style crab cakes in honor of Megan’s home town. After dinner guests got down  with the fabulous Rhythm Nation and danced all night long!

We hope you enjoy these photos by Walter and Walters and get inspired for your own big day!

Leigh & Brian- Winter Wedding at St. Mary’s Chapel and Cobblestone Hall

I’m so excited to share the gorgeous, personal, and unique wedding of Leigh and Brian!

Let’s start with their love story……Leigh and Brian both went to high school in Raleigh. Leigh attended St. Mary’s and Brian attended St. David’s. One fateful night out they met at a local coffee shop and the rest is history! When it was time to get married the couple loved the idea of a winter wedding in the town where it all began. The ceremony took place at the beautiful St. Mary’s Chapel, where Leigh attended school,  followed with a reception downtown at Cobblestone Hall.

The best part about Leigh and Brian’s wedding was that they brought in so many details to make it a personal experience that reflected their unique styles and personalities. Details in honor of the groom’s New Orlean’s heritage were found throughout the wedding. Leigh wore a fleur de lis hair pin, the bridesmaids had fleur de lis pins on their sashes, there was a New Orleans food station (complete with gumbo and mulfaletta sandwiches), and during the reception they broke out with a second line and custom made handkerchiefs that said, ‘Laissez le bon temps rouler!, ” or, “Let the good times roll!”  Rather than a traditional sit down the dinner the couple opted for a variety of food stations which included local honey and cheeses, Indian fare, along with Mediterranean and Americana foods. And in honor of their passion for beer, they offered a local beer station for the guests to enjoy. After dinner Leigh and Brian treated the guests to  a fabulous hot chocolate station complete with flavored syrups, marshmallows, peppermints and more! Guests partied the night away with a fabulous dj and took breaks to pop in the photo booth for a quick picture. To end the night guests grabbed macron favors as they ran out the door for a glow stick exit!  It certainly was a night filled with incredible food, beautiful details, and  non-stop fun!

We hope you enjoy the fabulous photos from Jessica Arden Photography and get inspired !

Leslie & David-Springtime Durham Wedding

Leslie and David’s March wedding was a welcome into Spring! The sun was shining and the temperatures were just right  for their exchange of vows at Duke Gardens. After the intimate ceremony a reception followed at The Cotton Room. Leslie and David chose a palette of spring colors with pinks, purples, and greens. Tre Bella created beautiful centerpieces with tulips, moss, and candles. As a personal touch Leslie and David provided beer growlers from their favorite breweries for vases. And in honor of Leslie’s grandmother each guest found a packet of wildflower seeds at their place setting as the favor.

Congratulations to  a wonderful couple!
