Tori and David: A Classic Wedding at Duke Chapel and Bay 7

Tori and David’s gorgeous summer wedding took place in August at Duke Chapel and Bay 7 at American Tobacco. Both attended Duke University and wanted to come back to the  place where their love began as undergraduates!

During the planning process Tori and her mom (who was instrumental with details as Tori took her bar exams) knew they wanted a classic and romantic look. And it was achieved! The bridesmaids stunned in emerald green dresses while the men wore classic black tuxes. And, while the reception was at an industrial venue, we create a romantic vibe with the crystal chandeliers from Get Lit Special Event Lighting and stunning flowers from Meristem Floral.

We hope you enjoy these images from the always fabulous Graham Terhune Photography and get inspired for your own big day!

Chirstine and Fabian: A Romantic Irish inspired wedding at the Cookery

Christine and Fabian met on New Year’s Eve 2012 in Dublin, just a few days before she was moving back home to the US. Their connection was instant and Fabian came to visit Christine in the US twice before she made the decision to move back to Ireland for her master’s degree. Once there, the couple’s romance blossomed within the Irish pubs and countryside. So, it was only appropriate that when they planned the wedding a touch of Irish details were included!

They chose a spring wedding and Fabian’s family flew in from France for the occasion. The  day started off sunny but, became more overcast and it started to rain, which really made it feel like an Irish day!

For the wedding Christine wanted to combine the industrial vibe of the Cookery with soft and romantic details. For the ceremony there were beautiful chandeliers and a market light wall, which created a warm and intimate glow. And everywhere you looked, there was lush greenery and candles! The head table had a stunning lace overlay that was soft and romantic. There were a lot of special and fun details as well. In honor of the Japanse wedding tradition, Christine folded 1,000 origami paper cranes which were hung on the wall. Instead of traditional table numbers, each table was the name of a pub they had visited in Ireland, with a corresponding picture of Christine and Fabian standing in front of the pub!  And for the cake cutting, they used a vintage sword that Chrstine’s grandfather collected on his travels around the world.

I had so much fun working with Christine and her mom, Michelle, on the wedding. It’s truly one to remember and a reminder of why I love my job.

Lauren and Matt: A Classic Durham Wedding at Watt’s St. Baptist and The Rickhouse

Lauren and Matt’s love story is a true Durham tale. One day as Lauren and her family were strolling downtown, Matt (on the other side of a fence at the Surf Club) yelled over and invited Lauren and her family to play bocce. The chemistry was instant and Lauren and Matt ended up spending hours together that evening talking and getting to know each other.  The next few months they fell in love with Durham as the backdrop to their romance. So, it was only appropriate that they stay local for their wedding celebration.

Lauren and Matt were married on the perfect fall day! The ceremony took place at Watt’s Street Baptist which held extra special meaning since Lauren’s family has worshiped there for three generations. After the wedding guests headed to the nearby Rickhouse where they enjoyed delicious food from Donovan’s Dish. One of the incredibly special details were the flowers. Not only were they stunningly beautiful but, the were made by Lauren’s own family which owns, Sander’s Florist.

I hope you read this blog and get inspired for your own wedding day!

Ruthellen and Daniel: A Romantic Summer Wedding at the Cloth Mill

These days it’s rare to hear of childhood sweethearts that stand the test of time. But, for Ruthellen and Daniel, their middle school relationship was everlasting!

The couple married on a warm summer day. But, the heat didn’t stop them from having a gorgeous first look over the lake at Ruthellen’s family home or a lovely outdoor ceremony at The Cloth Mill. After the ceremony guests cooled off inside with specialty drinks, the  Baby Ruth and the Danny Boy, and some fabulous food from Mitchell’s Catering. Ruthellen chose a sophisticated and  romantic color palette of soft greens and pinks for her decor. But, she also added in a few fun touches! In lieu of a traditional guest book attendees snapped shots with vintage style polaroid cameras to add to the wedding memories. And at each place setting guests were given boxes of “childhood sweet tarts, ” as wedding favors. After dinner, guests partied on the dance floor to the music of Joe Bunn until it was time for the sparkler send off!

Jasmine and Joel: A Festive Summer Wedding

It’s so exciting when a bride and groom really want to create a unique wedding that is a reflection of  own their personalities and styles. And that was certainly the case with Jasmine and Joel’s summer wedding!

Jasmine and Joel knew they wanted a day filled with colorful and fun details. From the ombre hair flowers to the feather bowties, nothing was overlooked! The day started out a bit rainy but, they were able to pull off their intimate ceremony at Duke Gardens with Jasmine’s brother acting as the officiant. And rather than a traditional trio, Jasmine opted for  a Spanish guitar which reminded her of her studies abroad.  After the ceremony Jasmine and Joel arrived to the Rickhouse where the big party started! Guests feasted on New Orlean’s dishes in honor of Joel’s heritage. From the shrimp and grits to the gumbo, Donovan’s Dish did an incredible job! After dinner guests danced the night away. But, once the music stopped, Jasmine and Joel had one more surprise! The Boom Unit Brass Band entered the room and lead guests in a second line all the way outside to the getaway car!

Brittany and Megan: An urban Durham Wedding

Brittany and Megan’s wedding was all about fun and laughter! The day started with sixteen women taking over 140 Salon for a morning full of pampering. The girls had a great time and then loaded The Bridge Bus for photos downtown. Brittany and Megan decided to break all traditions about seeing each other on the wedding day. Not only did they see each other at the salon, they skipped the first look! They decided they would rather spend the day with each other having fun instead of being forced apart over tradition.

After taking some gorgeous photos downtown with the Durham skyline it was time for the ceremony and reception at The Cookery. During the ceremony the flower girl refused to walk (typical for a 4 year old). But, suddenly she realized what was happening and ran down the aisle yelling, “It started! It started!” Everyone laughed and it set the tone for the sweet ceremony.

Guests moved inside for the reception where the room was decorated in shades of silver, purple, and gold with accents of greenery and floating candles. It was so romantic! At each place setting guests were treated to some classic NYC black and white cookies in custom bags. For dinner guests enjoyed a Southern feast by Donovan’s Dish and then it was time to party and dance until the glow stick send off!

Kate and Bill- A Fall Wedding at Haw River Ballroom

Kate and Bill were married this past fall in their new home state of NC! Guests came from all over the country to share in the celebration and enjoy a little Southern charm. As guests arrive to the ceremony they were greeted with hot apple cider and some blue grass music from Big Fat Gap. The ceremony was not only beautiful but, filled with laughter and smiles! After some family photos, everyone loaded the buses and headed to the reception at the Haw River Ballroom. The room was stunning with an eclectic mix of farm tables and gorgeous linens combined with vintage style plates. For dinner guests enjoyed a delicious meal of fennel apple walnut salad, braised lamb shank with a white bean ragout and sautéed greens, perfect for the fall! Once dinner finished, Brian McGuire of McSound Productions kept guests on the  floor all night long!

Lacey & Rob-Art Deco Inspired Wedding at American Tobacco

Lacey and Rob’s wedding was perfection! From the elegant art deco vibe, to the delicious food, incredible lighting, and florals, no detail was missed.

The day started off with a little drizzle but, that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirit! The intimate and laughter filled ceremony took place on the mezzanine of Bay 7. Afterwards guests feasted on    delicious appetizers provided by the Angus Barn and enjoyed playing some of the couples favorite games including Hungry Hippos and Battleship. Everyone moved downstairs for dinner where they dined in elegance under custom made chandeliers by Get Lit and enjoyed the romantic florals provided by Tre Bella.  One of my favorite touches were the candelabras, a perfect way to bring in the vintage vibe. And there were so many surprises! Lacey’s parents surprised the couple with artist  Dan Nelson painting their first dance. Lacey surprised Rob by changing their first dance song. It was replaced by a recording of her singing Feels Like Home (click the link to listen). And finally, Lacey’s singing group Avante surprised Lacey and Rob with a special performance after dinner. So many unexpected elements made for a lot of joy and laughter throughout the evening!

Toni & Matt- Classically Elegant Wedding at The Cookery

I’m excited to share Toni and Matt’s lovely October wedding at The Cookery! The day started off with a sweet and intimate morning ceremony followed by a delicious brunch from Sage and Swift. Guests enjoyed Bloody Mary’s and a menu of blueberry pecan french toast, shrimp and grits, buttermilk biscuits, and sausages. Yum! For music Toni and Matt wanted a relaxed vibe so they chose Band Caribe to offer a little Caribbean flair for their guests to enjoy. One of my favorite details was the traditional send off in their car which was decorated by all the children in attendance.

We hope you enjoy these photo from McCardell Photography and get inspired for your own big day!

Reena & Shawn- Fun Summer Rehearsal Dinner at the Rickhouse

Reena and Shawn’s Labor day weekend started off with a Saturday party at the Rickhouse. In typical Indian tradition this party is the Sangeet and is filled with Indian food and choreographed dances. But, Reena and Shawn wanted the evening to be more of a welcome party that was relaxed, festive, and introduced their guests to the Durham. The Rickhouse was the perfect venue. It has an incredible view of the old Durham Bulls Stadium (as seen in the famous movie Bull Durham) and fresh seasonal flowers from Bluebird Meadows filled the room. For dinner guests enjoyed a menu of BBQ, corn fritter, mac n cheese, and fried okra provided by Durham Catering. And nothing cooled guests down on the warm summer evening better than an ice cream by bar the Freezing Pointe.

We hope  you enjoy these photos from the amazing Riley Maclean Photography!
