Lauren and Matt: A Classic Durham Wedding at Watt’s St. Baptist and The Rickhouse

Lauren and Matt’s love story is a true Durham tale. One day as Lauren and her family were strolling downtown, Matt (on the other side of a fence at the Surf Club) yelled over and invited Lauren and her family to play bocce. The chemistry was instant and Lauren and Matt ended up spending hours together that evening talking and getting to know each other.  The next few months they fell in love with Durham as the backdrop to their romance. So, it was only appropriate that they stay local for their wedding celebration.

Lauren and Matt were married on the perfect fall day! The ceremony took place at Watt’s Street Baptist which held extra special meaning since Lauren’s family has worshiped there for three generations. After the wedding guests headed to the nearby Rickhouse where they enjoyed delicious food from Donovan’s Dish. One of the incredibly special details were the flowers. Not only were they stunningly beautiful but, the were made by Lauren’s own family which owns, Sander’s Florist.

Jasmine and Joel: A Festive Summer Wedding

It’s so exciting when a bride and groom really want to create a unique wedding that is a reflection of  own their personalities and styles. And that was certainly the case with Jasmine and Joel’s summer wedding!

Jasmine and Joel knew they wanted a day filled with colorful and fun details. From the ombre hair flowers to the feather bowties, nothing was overlooked! The day started out a bit rainy but, they were able to pull off their intimate ceremony at Duke Gardens with Jasmine’s brother acting as the officiant. And rather than a traditional trio, Jasmine opted for  a Spanish guitar which reminded her of her studies abroad.  After the ceremony Jasmine and Joel arrived to the Rickhouse where the big party started! Guests feasted on New Orlean’s dishes in honor of Joel’s heritage. From the shrimp and grits to the gumbo, Donovan’s Dish did an incredible job! After dinner guests danced the night away. But, once the music stopped, Jasmine and Joel had one more surprise! The Boom Unit Brass Band entered the room and lead guests in a second line all the way outside to the getaway car!

I hope you enjoy these images from the fabulous Carolyn Scott Photography and get inspired for your own wedding day!

Reena & Shawn- Fun Summer Rehearsal Dinner at the Rickhouse

Reena and Shawn’s Labor day weekend started off with a Saturday party at the Rickhouse. In typical Indian tradition this party is the Sangeet and is filled with Indian food and choreographed dances. But, Reena and Shawn wanted the evening to be more of a welcome party that was relaxed, festive, and introduced their guests to the Durham. The Rickhouse was the perfect venue. It has an incredible view of the old Durham Bulls Stadium (as seen in the famous movie Bull Durham) and fresh seasonal flowers from Bluebird Meadows filled the room. For dinner guests enjoyed a menu of BBQ, corn fritter, mac n cheese, and fried okra provided by Durham Catering. And nothing cooled guests down on the warm summer evening better than an ice cream by bar the Freezing Pointe.

We hope  you enjoy these photos from the amazing Riley Maclean Photography!
